Edo's Esoteric Pinhole Essays-Introduction

In these columns I hope to share with readers something of myself. For those who are already familiar with my pinhole photographic work and "artist's statements", it will be a chance to see some of what goes on in the making of my photographs. For newcomers to pinhole and for those who have a general interest in photography, it will offer a glimpse of what it is like to be deeply involved in photography as an artist and concerned citizen of the world.

I hope to touch on both the inner as well as the outer processes that are part of world of photography. The main focus will be on Pinhole Photography, but as nothing exists in a vacuum, expect some leeway in the themes discussed. Thus I have chosen the title "Pinholistic".

I may not be an expert in all fields, but I do know what works for me. And what works for me today might not work for me tomorrow or for you either. I will be happy if I can share a few "secrets" of technique or give you a tangent to follow in your own original way. I am sure I would be inspired by your creative responses whether photographic or in some other form.

In addition to talking about my own work, I plan to share some pinhole workshop experiences, introduce a bit about pinhole and life in Japan, discuss exhibiting and marketing pinhole photographs, and (though I am no critic) occasionally comment on the work of others. Life itself is what interests me. Pinhole photography and all it involves is a catalyst for immersing myself in it."
